How Often Should You Correct Your Paint?

Most vehicles only need paint correction once, then again only when new swirls, scratches, or oxidation build up enough to see. Paint correction removes a thin layer of clear coat each time, and that layer is limited, so it is not a yearly service. The smart approach is to correct the paint when it needs it, then protect it right away so it stays corrected. At Grimeaway Autoworks in Ada, OK, paint correction starts at $300 based on vehicle size.

Why can't you correct paint every year?

Paint correction works by leveling the clear coat with a machine polisher, compounds, and polishes until the defects are gone. That means a small amount of clear coat comes off every time. Factory clear coat is thin, and once it is gone, the only fix is a repaint. That is why we measure paint thickness with a digital gauge before we start, so we know how much we can safely remove.

How do you know when your paint needs correcting?

  • Swirl marks show up as a spider-web pattern around a light source in direct sun.
  • Oxidation makes the paint look dull and chalky, often on the hood, roof, and trunk first.
  • Water spots are etched into the finish and do not wipe off.
  • Haze leaves the paint looking cloudy even right after a wash.

If you see those, a wash or a sealer will not fix them. If your paint is clean and glossy, you do not need correction yet.

Single-stage or multi-stage: which do you need?

Single-Stage Correction is one round of light compounding and polishing for light swirls, haze, and early oxidation, a good fit for newer or well-kept vehicles. Multi-Stage Correction adds more rounds for deeper scratches, heavy swirls, and oxidation on older or hard-used vehicles. We always use the lightest stage that gets the result. How do you make one correction last for years?

Protect it the same week. Fall and winter are hard on paint in Pontotoc County: November highs average around 62°F with lows near 39°F, and December drops to about 53°F and 31°F (US Climate Data). Frost, road treatment, and mud all go to work on bare paint. A Revivify self-healing coating holds the corrected finish and re-levels light swirls with heat, so you are not right back where you started by spring. Then keep it clean with regular auto detailing instead of brush washes.

Frequently asked questions

How much does paint correction cost in Ada, OK?

Paint correction at Grimeaway Autoworks starts at $300, based on vehicle size. Your final quote depends on the paint condition and whether you need single-stage or multi-stage correction. We give you a firm quote after looking at the paint in person.

Does a brand-new car need paint correction?

Sometimes. New vehicles can pick up swirls and marks during shipping and dealer prep. A light single-stage correction is often all a new vehicle needs before a coating.

Will paint correction remove every scratch?

No. Correction removes defects in the clear coat. Deep chips and scratches that go through the clear coat need a different repair, and we will tell you up front if your vehicle has them.

Should I get a coating after paint correction?

Yes, if you want the result to last. A Revivify self-healing coating protects the corrected finish and re-levels light swirls when it is warmed by the sun or warm water.
